Something for everyone with a family holiday to Thailand

Thailand: When you want to take a family holiday that has something for everyone, think Thailand.

There are so many reasons for planning family holidays in Thailand. Visit the stunning beaches of Ko Samet or Ko Chang on the Southeastern Gulf for snorkeling, diving and sailing. Travel west to Khao Sok National Park to do some hiking through Thailand’s most prolific rain forest. Go to the remote north for elephant rides; try either Ko Samui or Phuket for floating fruit markets, historical sites & shopping.

For accommodations, even the most frugal of travelers can get a 5 star hotel for $300/night or less. Otherwise, budget travelers can get rooms for much less especially in the low season.

When to visit:

Without question, the best time for a family holiday in Thailand is from November-February. The weather is more favorable and the beaches are at their best, plus this is the main season for Thailand’s national and regional festivals. Peak travel is from November-late March and a mini peak season in July-August. For families on a budget, take advantage of the low season (April-June, September-October).

Thailand’s Weather:

When planning family holidays in Thailand; knowing the regions weather is key to select which areas of Thailand to visit and when. Monsoon season is generally form July to early November. Plan your family holiday in the southern region from March-May, during the dry, cool period as the rest of the country is miserably hot. Traveling in the capital? Two periods to be aware of, you’ll fry in April and have unlimited outdoor swimming in October. Generally, the Andaman see’s more rain than the Gulf coast and the Southeastern Gulf tends to get less rain than the peninsula for you beach goers.

Places to visit:

  • Bangkok: Family holidays in Thailand are incomplete without a visit to nation’s capitol Bangkok, distinctly modern and visibly westernized, lies on the east side of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya river. Suggested sights for political, religious, architectural and cultural enlightenment are; Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall, Assumption Cathedral, Baiyoke Sky Tower, Bang Kwang Prison, Bangkok University Art Gallery, and the Children's Discovery Museum.

  • Ancient City: For the architecture buff, this is an excellent family holiday stop, south of Bangkok. This is the largest open-air museum in the world, representing over 100 of Thailand's most impressive monuments in miniature spread over 80-hectare (200-acre) following the basic shape of Thailand itself. It is architecturally sophisticated, intended as a preservation site for classical Thai buildings and art forms. Truly, Ancient City is well worth the trip out of town.

  • Wat Phra Kaew & Grand Palace: The Temple of the Emerald Buddha a must see for any family holiday in Thailand. This architectural marvel seemingly levitates above the ground. The city's holiest and most spectacular site inspires awe in even the most jaded traveler. Adjoining Wat Phra Kaew is the Grand Palace a former royal residence.
